Single Adult Emergency Shelter
The Emergency Shelter for adults is a 50 day program which provides shelter and meals to 15 adults at a time while seeking to assist them into permanent housing and financial stability. This is accomplished through a weekly meeting with the case manager where goals such as employment and housing are identified and worked towards.
History
The involved case management focused on a client centered approach has been successfully running the Wallingford Emergency Shelter for single adults for 29 years serving on average 50 clients a year. All clients have been sheltered from the cold, provided three meals a day, and been personally assisted by a dedicated case manager in the achievement of their goals

Successes
Last year, 16 of the 50 were permanently housed, 12 were actively engaged in a mental health or substance abuse recovery program, 9 were employed on at least a part time basis, 39 were connected to entitlement programs, and 3 were actively engaged in an ongoing adult education program.

Ongoing Efforts
Not only does this multifaceted program meet the immediate needs of food, clothing and shelter for the homeless, but it also focuses on prevention through diversion practices, and follow up case manager after permanent housing is located to support individuals and families in self sufficiency ultimately preventing another homeless episode.
